Mission

The Social Issues, Mass Media, and Education Studies Laboratory (S.I.M.M.E.S.L.) serves the following subjects:

a) Study of the interconnection of the Greek language with contemporary mass media and communication and its promotion and spreading, through their channels;
b) Promotion of the educational and training function of the contemporary mass media, and the formation of the modern educational applications, focusing on pre-school and protoschool childhood;
c) Study of crucial social issues, such as social discrimination, violence and mediation, gender expression and gender identity, heterogeneity and the role of the school.
The S.I.M.M.E.S. Laboratory will serve as a venue for: research, analysis, teaching, and rescue of the Modern Greek Language, on the one hand, through the creative utilization of contemporary broadcasting and printed media, and on the other hand, through the study of crucial and sensitive social issues, such as social inequalities, xenophobia, homophobia, and bullying at school.
In this content, it will offer courses, training seminars, as well as expert programs, like summer schools and other educational programs, as part of the research activities of the School, contributing to the formation of a multicultural and dynamic environment, that respects diversity, cultivation of empathy, and mitigation of social discrimination.

The mission of the Laboratory is the following:

  • To highlight novel and innovative academic groups, which, through educational and research activities, will work towards empowering the presence of the Greek language in Greek and foreign media, as well as in international educational and cultural institutions.
  • To focus on contemporary sensitive social issues, such as social inequalities and discriminations, violence, bullying and mediation, gender expression and gender identity, homophobia, heterogeneity and racism with regards to the role of the School, focusing on Kindergarten, to address them.
